Why Apex

Not Another Big Box Gym

Planet Fitness gives you a treadmill and a purple wall. Equinox charges $300/month to feel fancy. LA Fitness packs 5,000 members into a building designed for 2,000. Apex is what happens when two former college athletes build the gym they actually wanted to train in.

Every trainer here is certified and experienced. The programming is real. The community shows up for each other. And the price is honest — no annual fees, no initiation, no contracts.

5 certified trainers — not clipboard holders
6-week periodized programming, not random workouts
15,000 sqft — room to train without waiting
Open 5am–11pm, 365 days a year
No contracts, no annual fees, cancel anytime

Training in Chicago: Why an Indoor Gym Matters More Than You Think

Chicago has one of the most active fitness cultures in the country. The Lakefront Trail draws thousands of runners, cyclists, and outdoor athletes from April through October. The Chicago Marathon alone puts 45,000 runners on the streets every fall, and neighborhoods like Lincoln Park, Lakeview, and Wicker Park are packed with people who take their training seriously.

But here’s what the lakefront can’t give you: six months of reliable training. When the wind chill hits -10°F in January and the lakefront path is a sheet of ice, your only options are to stop training or take it indoors. That’s why serious Chicago athletes — the ones who actually finish their marathon, hit their deadlift PR, or drop the weight for good — build their routines around a gym that’s open and equipped year-round.

Apex Performance Gym sits at 2450 N Lincoln Ave in Lincoln Park, one of Chicago’s most walkable neighborhoods. We’re a 10-minute walk from the Fullerton L station (Brown, Red, and Purple lines), two blocks from the Lincoln Park Zoo, and surrounded by some of the best restaurants and coffee shops in the city. Most of our members live within a mile — they walk or bike to the gym year-round.

For members who drive, we have a free dedicated parking lot behind the building. Street parking on Lincoln Ave and surrounding blocks is also available, and metered spots are free before 8am — perfect for the 5am and 6am crowd.

Whether you’re training for the Chicago Marathon, building strength through the winter months, or just looking for a gym where people actually know your name — Apex was built for exactly that. We’re not a franchise. We’re not a startup. We’re two former athletes who wanted a gym that felt like a team, and 5,000 members who agree.

What Chicago Members Are Saying

I walked into Apex 45 pounds heavier and with zero confidence. Coach Sarah put me in HIIT Burn three days a week and built a meal plan. Eight months later I ran my first 5K. The trainers here actually care — they remember your name and your goals.

Marcus T.

Lost 45 lbs in 8 months

I’ve been to LA Fitness, Planet Fitness, Equinox. Apex is different because it feels like a team, not a building full of strangers. The 6am Strength Lab crew has become my second family. That accountability is worth more than any equipment.

Jessica L.

Member since 2022

After my second kid, working out alone wasn’t happening. Coach Mike designed a program around my schedule and my body’s recovery. The community here pulled me through the days I didn’t want to show up — and now I’m stronger than before I had kids.

Rachel K.

Postpartum fitness journey

I trained for the Chicago Marathon at Apex. Used the treadmills when it was -10 outside, did CrossFit WOD for functional strength, and Yoga Flow for recovery. Having everything under one roof — literally — made the difference between finishing and not starting.

Joining a Gym in Chicago? Common Questions.

We have three tiers: Basic ($39/month) for full gym access, Performance ($69/month) which adds all group classes, sauna, and our member app, and Elite ($129/month) which includes 2 personal training sessions per month plus nutrition consulting. No contracts on any plan — cancel anytime with 30 days notice.

Your 7-day free trial gives you full access to the entire facility — gym floor, cardio area, all group classes, sauna, and recovery zone. You also get a complimentary one-on-one intro session with a trainer to learn the equipment and talk through your goals. No credit card required to start.

Yes. Every Apex membership is month-to-month with no long-term contract. Give us 30 days notice and you’re done. No cancellation fees, no hoops to jump through. We keep members by being good, not by trapping them.

Just yourself and workout clothes. We provide towels, lockers, showers, shampoo, body wash, and hair dryers. Water stations are located throughout the gym. If you’re doing a group class, arrive 10 minutes early so the instructor can set you up.

A 4-session pack is $199 ($50/session) and an 8-session pack is $349 ($44/session). Elite members get 2 sessions included in their monthly membership. Every PT session is 60 minutes with a certified trainer who builds a custom program for your goals.

Every class at Apex is designed to be scalable. Our instructors offer modifications for every movement so beginners and advanced athletes can train side by side. Yoga Flow and Boxing Basics are especially beginner-friendly. HIIT Burn is intense but you control your own pace. Nobody judges — we all started somewhere.

Yes — we have a dedicated parking lot behind the building with free parking for all members. Street parking is also available on Lincoln Ave and surrounding blocks. The gym is a 10-minute walk from the Fullerton L station (Brown/Red/Purple lines) for members who take transit.

Members must be 16 or older. Members aged 16-17 need a parent or guardian to sign the membership agreement and can train during staffed hours (5am–11pm weekdays, 7am–9pm weekends). There is no upper age limit — we have members in their 70s and our trainers are experienced with age-appropriate programming.
